This Jacobite Air Twist Wine Glass with grape and vine engraving is from the 18th century, most commonly dating to around c1750. These glasses were particularly popular during the mid-Georgian period in England, after the failed Jacobite rebellions, and were used to secretly toast the exiled Stuart monarchs.

Symbol of Abundance and Celebration: Grapes and vines represent wine, abundance, fertility, and celebration, relevant for a drinking glass. They could allude to the prosperity expected under a restored Stuart monarchy.

Classical and Christian Symbolism: Grapes and vines have symbolism from ancient Greek and Roman mythology (Dionysus/Bacchus) and Christianity (representing the blood of Christ and spiritual life). These associations would have been understood by the educated elite who owned such glasses.

Adding to the "Secret Language": As supporting the Jacobite cause was treasonous, many symbols on these glasses were intended to be understood only by fellow sympathizers.
