Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced during the reign of King Edward VII, Edwardian mantel clocks frequently draw inspiration from earlier eighteenth-century designs, particularly the Sheraton Revival style. They are defined by slender proportions, mahogany or rosewood cases, and delicate decorative marquetry such as ribbons, swags, and shell motifs.

Cases were typically constructed using dense hardwoods such as mahogany, often veneered and accented with satinwood, boxwood, or fruitwood stringing and marquetry. Movements were crafted from brass and steel, housed behind glass dials edged with brass bezels.

Authentic period clocks display signs of genuine age, including light patination on brass elements and minor wear around keyhole winders. Inspecting the mechanical movement for maker marks or stamps, along with examining hand-cut inlay and traditional joinery, helps confirm authenticity.

An antique clock serves as an effective focal point when positioned on a stone or timber fireplace mantelpiece. It can also be paired with modern framed artwork, books, or ceramic vessels on a sideboard or bookshelf to create a curated contrast between historic and modern elements.

Keep the wooden case away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and veneer lifting. Dust the exterior gently with a microfibre cloth, avoid chemical polishes on brass bezels, and ensure the mechanical movement is serviced by a professional horologist periodically.
