Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A plafonnier is a ceiling light fitting featuring a shallow, inverted dish or bowl made of glass or alabaster, suspended flat against the ceiling or via chains. Popular in the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, it conceals the light source to produce a soft, indirect ambient glow.

Plafonniers from around 1910 commonly utilise cast or pressed brass hardware paired with frosted, etched, or acid-treated glass shades. Chain suspensions and gallery rims are frequently detailed with Neoclassical or Art Nouveau motifs.

Authentic period examples display signs of historical production, such as naturally aged brass patina, hand-painted or acid-etched glass details, original ceiling roses, and heavy cast brass support chains rather than lightweight modern equivalents.

Suspended overhead in hallways, entryways, or dining spaces, a period glass plafonnier provides architectural interest without visually overwhelming the room. It complements both traditional schemes and contemporary interiors seeking a touch of historical warmth.

Dust the glass bowl regularly with a soft, lint-free microfibre cloth. For deeper cleaning, remove the glass shade carefully and wash it with lukewarm water and mild soap, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners on any hand-painted decoration or brass mountings.
