Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian novelty cruet sets became popular during the late nineteenth century as playful dining accessories designed to hold condiments such as salt, pepper, and mustard. Often crafted in figurative shapes like carriages, wheelbarrows, or boats, they reflected the eras interest in conversation-starting tableware.

These sets typically feature electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) or sterling silver frames housing hand-cut or pressed lead glass bottles and pots. The glass containers were often fitted with silver lids, spoons, or perforated castor tops.

Authentic Victorian pieces often feature manufacturer marks, such as makers initials or electroplate trademarks like EPNS, stamped into the metal underside. Additional signs include hand-cut glass facets, period-accurate joins, and authentic signs of age or light surface oxidisation.

An antique cruet set can serve as a decorative focal point on a modern sideboard, dining table, or open kitchen shelving. Styling it alongside contemporary ceramics or glass creates a balanced contrast between traditional craftsmanship and modern design.

Clean the glass containers with warm soapy water and a soft cloth, avoiding abrasive pads. Gently polish the silver plated frame using a specialised silver polishing cloth to remove tarnish without stripping the underlying plating.
