Antique Khamseh Tribal Carpet. 308cm X 232cm.

Description

Last quarter 19th century.

Almost certainly by one of the arab tribes of the khamseh confederation.

This is a carpet sized tribal weaving with three lovely powder blue central geometric medallions within three joined hexagonal medallions.

Has pecking chickens,small birds probably stylised peacocks,animals,octagons,rosettes,stylised tree of life and a host of other filler ornaments within the dark blue field.

Note also to the inner border is animals with candy stripe bodies and combs picked out in ivory.

Thoroughly charming weaving.

Lower pile to bottom end. Ends been professionally retied. Side cords with alternating coloured wools. Not a1 condition but full piled would be 4-5k.

Price today is £1550 gbp. For carpet size.

Size is 10 foot 1 inches by 7 foot 7 inches. 308cm X 232cm. At widest points. Fringes not measured in size.

I do have fully restored qashqai's and khamseh's within my inventory. Now selling realistically priced items.

Khamseh carpets were woven by the Khamseh Confederacy, a group of nomadic tribes in southwestern Persia. These carpets are recognised for their bold geometric patterns, multi-medallion layouts, and dark indigo blue, deep red, and ivory colour palettes.

Traditionally, Khamseh rugs are hand-knotted using hand-spun wool for both the pile and the foundation. The wool is dyed using natural vegetable sources, resulting in subtle variations in tone known as abrash.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-tied asymmetrical knots visible on the underside, flexible wool foundations, and minor variations in design symmetry. Natural vegetable dyes often show gradual tonal shifts rather than uniform colour.
