Description

This charming little 'chanteh' or vanity-bag, contains three light-coloured birds marching across the desert with two dark-coloured birds below. Symbolically, the light-coloured birds represent the males (sky) and the dark birds, the females (earth), thus the creation of life!

The bag was woven by a Darrehshuri nomad within the Qashqa'i Confederacy circa 1900 and was a highly-prized possession for the weaver who would have kept a mirror, coins or jewellery in this bag.

It is in excellent condition with the original braided handle for transporting it over the woman's shoulder.

Size: 25cm x 22cm (10" x 8.5").
