We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An albarello is a specialised form of tin-glazed earthenware jar designed historically to store apothecaries ointments, herbs, and dry medical preparations. Originating in the Middle East and perfected in Renaissance Italy, these vessels traditionally feature a distinctive waisted silhouette to allow easy removal from high pharmacy shelving.

18th-century Italian majolica was crafted from fired earthenware coated with an opaque white tin glaze. Artisans hand-painted decorative motifs and pharmaceutical inscriptions using metal oxide pigmentssuch as cobalt for blue and manganese for dark letteringbefore a final firing fixed the design into the glaze layer.

Authentic period pieces exhibit characteristic signs of hand craftsmanship, including slight variations in potting symmetry, pinholes or subtle crawling in the tin glaze, and natural wear or chipping around the foot rim and lip. The brushwork tends to display freehand artistic movement, and painted inscriptions often reflect period Latin pharmaceutical abbreviations.

An antique albarello serves as a decorative accent when displayed individually on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or console table. It also pairs effectively alongside companion blue-and-white ceramics or natural botanical arrangements to add historical contrast within traditional or contemporary spaces.

Tin-glazed ceramics require gentle dusting with a dry, soft microfibre cloth. Avoid immersing damaged or crazed earthenware in water or using harsh chemical cleaners, as moisture and detergents can penetrate glaze fractures and discolour the underlying clay body.
