Superb Early Victorian Coromandel and Silver Travel Box

Description

A superb early Victorian brass bound coromandel travelling box with original fitted interior and solid silver lidded crystalware, hallmarked London 1857. The figured coromandel veneered exterior with brass bound edges, matching brass stringing and decorative inlays to the corners, plus working original Bramah lock and key. The hinged lid opening to reveal a superb and immaculate fully fitted interior, button release to the front edge to fold down the front panel revealing two drawers; each with campaign style handles. The top drawer lined in leather and the lower drawer with a leather writing surface, which opens to access a fitted and blue silk lined jewellery compartment. The top section of the box with leather lined divisions to hold the 11 original engraved solid silver topped jars and bottles each with original perfect crystalware bases or vessels. Removable pad to the centre with mother of pearl handled dressing accessories, scissors and pen knife; storage compartment below. Removable mirror to the interior of the lid with leather and silk lined letter compartment behind. The engraved silver lids bearing the makers mark for London silversmith Thomas Johnson, 1st specialist box lid maker, along with clear hallmarks to all sections. The finest quality and presented in immaculate unused condition with a rich original polish along with a complete interior in perfect condition.
