Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian Aesthetic Movement bookcases from the late nineteenth century combine functional shelving with artistic decorative elements. They frequently incorporate spindle galleries, leaded or geometric glass, metal overlays, and asymmetric tier arrangements influenced by East Asian and Anglo-Japanese design principles.

Late Victorian cabinet makers primarily utilised solid mahogany, walnut, and oak for structural framing and veneers. Decorative elements often incorporated brass or copper metalwork, bevelled or leaded glass panels, and hand-turned spindle work.

Authentic pieces by high-tier makers often feature stamped or stencilled maker names on the upper edges of drawers or back panels. Dovetail drawer joints, hand-finished mahogany interiors, solid brass hardware, and precise joinery distinguish authentic period production from later reproductions.

Dark mahogany bookcases provide visual weight when positioned against neutral or muted wall shades. Open shelving allows for a balanced mix of books, ceramics, and structural objects to modernise the dark wood tones without obscuring the cabinet work.

Maintain mahogany timber by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Clean glazed and decorative metal panels carefully using gentle, non-abrasive cleaners, avoiding harsh chemicals that can strip historical patination.
