Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A writing slope is a portable wooden box featuring a hinged interior that folds out into an inclined writing surface, popular during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries for storing stationery, inkwells, and correspondence.

Victorian writing slopes were typically constructed using fine hardwoods and decorative veneers such as burr walnut, rosewood, and mahogany, accented with brass corner straps, inlaid escutcheons, and leather or velvet writing surfaces.

Authentic period writing slopes often display hand-cut dovetail joints, high-quality brass locks such as those by Bramah, original interior compartments, and natural patina or light oxidisation on metal fittings.

An antique writing slope can be displayed closed as an accent piece on an office desk, console table, or bookshelf to introduce rich wood textures and historical character into modern decorative schemes.

To preserve the burr walnut veneer, place the box away from direct heat sources and sunlight, clean the surface with a soft dry cloth, and apply a clear beeswax polish periodically along the grain.
