Antiquesaddictive has dated this Elizabethan Cast Iron Fireback to the 17th Century.
A badly damaged Spanish Fleet returned to Spain by sailing north up the North Sea, and round the top of the British Isles and then heading South in the Atlantic to Spain. The Firebacks were produced in The Weald area of Southern England. This example is possibly a 17th Century Copy using the original Molds, a practice common in those days. The design is known as an Armada Fireback.
