Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late 19th century, particularly within the Aesthetic Movement, craftspeople focused on natural forms and botanical studies. Carved wooden panels featuring flora such as water lilies, irises, and reeds were widely produced for interior decoration, wainscoting, and furniture inserts.

Craftspeople predominantly used dense hardwoods such as oak, walnut, mahogany, and teak due to their ability to hold fine detail during hand carving. Panels were frequently finished with natural wax or oil polishes to emphasize the natural grain and depth of the relief.

Authentic period carvings exhibit subtle hand-tool marks, uneven depth in the background recessed areas, and natural shrinkage or patination consistent with age. The reverse side often shows historical hand-saw marks and original joinery techniques.

Carved wood panels can be hung vertically as a triptych, arranged horizontally above furniture, or integrated into a gallery wall. Their organic patterns and dark timber tones provide textural contrast against neutral or deeply toned painted walls.

Dust regularly using a soft-bristled brush or microfibre cloth to reach recessed areas. Apply high-grade beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year, and keep the wood away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent splitting.
