Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A campaign writing slope is a portable mahogany or hardwood box designed for military officers and travellers during the 18th and 19th centuries. When opened, it reveals an angled writing surface along with compartments for inkwells, quills, and stationery.

These boxes were constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or teak to prevent warping in varied climates. They feature heavy brass corner brackets, flush handles, and brass strapping to withstand travel.

Authentic period examples display flush-fitted brass hardware screwed directly into the wood, screwed joints, and original brass lock mechanisms. Many also incorporate concealed spring-loaded secret compartments inside the structure.

Place the box closed on a study desk, library table, or sideboard to serve as a decorative focal point. Alternatively, display it in an open position on a coffee table to highlight the internal leather writing surface and compartments.

Dust the exterior regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply clear beeswax polish along the wood grain to preserve the finish. Avoid using abrasive metal cleaners on the brass fittings to protect the natural oxidisation and surrounding timber.
