A superb and highly collectable lustre bowl designed and decorated under the direction of Daisy Makeig-Jones for Wedgwood, Staffordshire, c.1915. The deep cobalt blue ground is hand-painted with iridescent and gilded exotic birds in flight, the interior glowing with shades of orange and gold, centered by a stylised oriental bird—hallmarks of Makeig-Jones’s early, ground-breaking work. The outer rim is encircled by a frieze of gilded geese, providing elegance and rhythm.

Marked beneath with the Wedgwood Portland vase emblem, “Made in England,” and an artist’s mark “R.” Makeig-Jones’s creations are among the most sought-after British ceramics, with the market for her works growing rapidly due to their rarity, cultural significance, and exceptional artistic quality.
