Royal Vienna Tea Caddy, Porcelain, C.1880

Description

A fine late 19th-century porcelain tea caddy by the Royal Vienna manufactory. Made circa 1880, this rectangular-form caddy features hand-painted mythological scenes to both sides, including classical depictions of Jupiter and Callisto, and Rinaldo and Armida. Cobalt blue ground with raised and screen-printed gilded decoration. Blue beehive mark under base. A collectible example of neoclassical revival porcelain.

Dimensions: height 14.7 cm, width 8.5 cm, depth 5 cm, neck diameter 2.3 cm, weight 309 grams.

Condition: excellent - paint, enamel, and gilding are completely intact, with only minor wear on the gilding on the ribs. A faint firing crack to the base, barely visible and formed during kiln firing. No damage or repair.
