Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian pedestal desk typically features a flat writing surface supported by two vertical pedestals containing drawers, flanking a central kneehole. These pieces were constructed with solid timber frames, veneered drawer fronts, and classic moulding details tailored for formal office or library environments.

These desks were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or pine with high-grade mahogany veneers. Drawer construction usually features hand-cut dovetail joints, cedar or pine drawer linings, and wooden or turned brass handles.

Authentic period examples display signs of hand-craftsmanship, such as slightly irregular hand-cut dovetail joints, original locks, shrinkage marks in solid timber, and natural surface patination around handles and edges.

A classic pedestal desk creates a substantial focal point when paired with modern task lighting, contemporary artwork, or streamlined seating, bridging traditional period aesthetics with modern working needs.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the desk away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent timber shrinkage or veneer cracking.
