Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Card tables gained widespread popularity in the 18th and 19th centuries as social parlor games became a central component of evening entertainment. During the Victorian period, cabinetmakers designed fold-over tables that could double as decorative wall tables or consoles when not in active use.

Victorian card tables were predominantly constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany or walnut, frequently accented with highly figured burr veneers. The playing interior was typically lined with baize or velvet, and moving parts relied on cast brass hinges and castors.

Authentic pieces feature book-matched burr walnut veneers, hand-carved pedestal bases, and period-correct joinery such as hand-cut dovetails within drawer or mechanism construction. Original brass castors and evidence of natural age-related patination on unexposed timber undersections also indicate authenticity.

In modern interiors, a fold-over card table works exceptionally well positioned against a hallway wall or behind a sofa as a narrow console table. Decorate the closed top with table lamps, ceramic vases, or framed artwork to balance historical craftsmanship with contemporary styling.

Keep burr walnut furniture away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent veneer drying or bleaching. Clean surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish twice a year along the grain to nourish the timber.
