Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Canine portraiture during the 19th century focused on precise anatomical detail, expression, and texture, often depicting hunting breeds or favoured companions. Artists emphasised naturalism, set against muted or atmospheric landscape backgrounds to highlight the subject.

These paintings were executed using oil-based pigments on stretched linen or cotton canvas. Frames were typically crafted from softwood or hardwood with moulded plaster ornament, finished with gold leaf gilding.

Authentic period paintings show age-appropriate craquelure across the paint surface, natural darkening of varnish, and evidence of hand-woven canvas on the reverse. Frames should exhibit genuine gilding wear and natural oxidisation rather than modern uniform distressing.

Position the painting as a focal point above a mantelpiece, console table, or within a gallery wall mixed with modern drawings. The rich gilt frame complements dark wood panelling, moody wall paint, or textured linen backdrop schemes.

Display the artwork away from direct sunlight, heating vents, and areas of high humidity to prevent canvas warping and paint cracking. Dust the frame gently with a soft dry brush, avoiding liquid cleaners on both the canvas and gilded surface.
