Decorative carved cistern cover with small apron to the base. Angled plates displaying the pressure and weather predictions either side of the broad mercury action stick barometer tube (larger size for improved accuracy and often used in coastal areas by seafarers). Twin vernier markers for daily weather readings with remote adjuster. Matching scale to the original mercury action thermometer sat to the centre of the trunk. Bears the makers name for Edward & Gabriel Davis, Leeds; opticians and makers of barometers and hygrometers from 1826 to 1847.
