Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Nineteenth-century portraiture often focused on realistic representation, detailing the subjects status through attire, posture, and accessories, particularly during the Victorian era.

Portraits were predominantly executed using oil paints on linen canvas or wooden panels, presented within ornate carved or moulded giltwood and gesso frames.

Authenticity can be determined by examining natural age-related craquelure, oxidation on the reverse of the canvas, period-correct framing technique, and historical clothing styles.

An antique portrait can be displayed as a focal point above a mantelpiece or integrated into a gallery wall to create a juxtaposition against modern furnishings.

Keep the artwork away from direct sunlight, extreme temperature fluctuations, and high humidity, dusting the frame gently with a soft dry brush rather than liquid cleaners.
