Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George III sideboards, originating in late 18th-century Britain, are defined by classical proportions, elegant wood veneers, and functional symmetry. Key traits include tapered square legs, delicate inlay or stringing, and curved shapes such as bow-fronted or serpentine silhouettes.

Primary timbers typically included imported West Indian or Cuban mahogany, valued for its stability and rich figure. Decorative details often featured fine boxwood or satinwood stringing, while secondary drawer construction relied on pine or oak with brass ring or urn drop handles.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, uneven secondary timber surfaces from hand planing, and natural wear around handles and keyholes. Original brass hardware will show mild surface oxidisation, and timber surfaces often feature subtle shrinkage marks consistent with natural age.

A Georgian sideboard functions as a grounding focal point in a dining room, hallway, or living space. Balancing the dark mahogany timber with contemporary artwork, minimalist table lamps, or modern ceramic vessels creates a sophisticated contrast between historical craftsmanship and current design.

To preserve the original timber finish, apply high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year using a microfibre cloth. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or bleaching, and immediately wipe clean any liquid spills.
