Sturmans Antiques has dated this piece to the Regency era.
The door with brass strung canted corners and a brass bezel to the convex glass sat above fish scale brass grills with red silk set behind. Matching brass grills forming sound frets to each side and glazed door to the rear. Sat on a moulded plinth with gilt brass bun feet below. The convex painted dial with Roman numerals and blued steel hands along with the makers name Thwaites & Reed. Double fusee movement with anchor escapement, striking a bell on the hour with repeater mechanism. Superb original condition with a rich patina and original gilt finish to the brass fittings. The movement fully overhauled and working.
