Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An overmantel mirror is a wide wall-mounted mirror designed to sit directly above a fireplace hearth and mantelpiece. Triple mirrors feature three separate reflective panels set within a single frame, a popular configuration during the Tudor Revival and Jacobean Revival eras to maximize light reflection across reception rooms.

Traditional oak overmantels are constructed using solid oak or oak veneers joined with mortise and tenon woodworking joints. They frequently feature carved architectural details such as nulled moulding, recessed timber panels, and silvered glass mirror plates held within a moulded frame.

Authentic revival pieces from makers such as Wood Bros under the Old Charm brand display characteristic carved motifs, including repetitive nulling patterns, linenfold detail, or Tudor rose motifs. They typically feature heavy oak construction, rich dark brown finishes, and solid wood backing boards.

Position the mirror directly above a living room fireplace, chimney breast, or large sideboard to anchor the wall space. Pair the warm oak wood with contemporary neutral paint schemes, ceramic vessels, or understated metal accents to create a balance between historical craftsmanship and contemporary decor.

Dust the wooden frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice per year, buffing gently following the direction of the wood grain. Clean the glass using a dedicated mirror cleaner applied directly to a cloth rather than sprayed onto the frame to prevent moisture damage to the timber.
