Victorian Trompe l’Oeil Game Still Life by Michelangelo Meucci (Italian, 1840–1890)
Signed and dated 1877 – Oil on Panel
A superb trompe l’oeil still life by the accomplished Italian painter Michelangelo Meucci (1840–1890), signed and dated ‘M. Meucci, Firenze 1877’. Finely painted in oil on an oval panel, the composition features a group of hanging game birds executed with remarkable detail and realism – a hallmark of Meucci’s work.
This high-quality 19th-century Italian painting is presented in a later ornate gilt frame. The reverse bears an old inscription referring to a picture dealer in Florence. The panel retains its original hanging hole at the top, consistent with Italian practice of the period.
Dimensions:
Frame: 69 x 51 cm (27 x 20 in)
Condition:
Very good condition with light craquelure visible to the painted surface. The later frame is sound with only minor wear. Ready to hang.
A fine example of Victorian trompe l’oeil painting by a listed Italian artist.
