This is a gorgeous Arts & Crafts silver christening mug by Bernard Cuzner * for Liberty & Co. Dated London 1908, it is marked with model number 2307. The slightly bellied cylindrical body decorated with a spot-hammered finish and engraved with stylised berries. Elegant narrow circular foot and distinctive flat handle. Excellent gauge of silver, a testimony to the quality of this unique piece.
* Bernard Cuzner (1877-1956) was an English silversmith and designer. He was head of metalwork at the Birmingham School of Art from 1910 to 1942. He was a leading figure in the Arts and Crafts style and designed for Liberty''s Cymric range of silverware and jewellery from 1899 . He also undertook private commissions, for which he had his own hallmarks. His work can be seen in the Victoria and Albert Museum silver room.
