Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French tete-a-tete seat, also known as a conversation bench or love seat, is a two-person bench designed with opposite or curved facing seats to facilitate conversation. Originating in nineteenth-century France, these pieces were commonly placed in formal gardens, parks, and conservatories.

Traditional French garden seats were manufactured using hand-forged wrought iron or cast iron, featuring woven wirework, tubular framework, and shaped strap metal. The iron components were typically painted or galvanised to provide protection against weather exposure.

Authentic historic ironwork shows evidence of hand-formed rivets, slotted screws, and heavy forged joinery rather than modern uniform welds. Natural surface oxidisation, multiple layered coats of flaking historic paint, and minor structural asymmetry also indicate age and period production.

Position the seat within a glasshouse, conservatory, or garden alcove to create a structural focal point. In modern interiors, pair the bench with neutral linen cushions or position it alongside potted botanical arrangements to blend indoor and outdoor spaces.

To preserve weathered ironwork, clear away loose flaking paint using a soft brush and apply a clear matte rust-inhibiting wax or sealant. Storing the piece under shelter during severe winter weather prevents moisture accumulation and controls rust formation.
