Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Introduced in 18th-century England, the dumb waiter was designed as a tiered dining room stand to hold secondary courses, condiments, and wine bottles. This allowed diners to serve themselves, reducing the need for servants during private conversations.

Authentic Georgian dumb waiters were typically crafted from solid dense mahogany, favoured for its durability and rich grain. The central supports featured hand-turned balusters, while the bases were supported by tripod legs fitted with brass castors.

Look for hand-carved details, dish-moulded tray edges designed to prevent items from sliding off, and authentic wear to the underside of the tiers. Period examples feature period brass castors, square hand-cut nails or early screws, and natural patination on the turned column.

A dumb waiter serves as a versatile side table or drinks display stand in living rooms, dining spaces, or hallways. The graduated tiers provide display space for glassware, potted plants, books, or decorative objects.

Keep the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to avoid warping or bleaching. Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish occasionally to preserve the woods lustre and patina.
