A late 19th century telescopic brass standard lamp with fluted column, by Messenger & Sons of Birmingham, circa 1880.

Messenger & Sons established circa 1835 in Gloucester Place, Alston Street, Birmingham, moved to 19 & 20 Broad Street around 1888. The company made chandeliers, candelabra, lamps and gas fittings and exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851.
