Small, Chamfer Top, Regency Style Fusee Table Or Mantel Clock. circa 1840.

£2,400    $3,201    €2,853
A very pretty little timepiece.

The 8 day duration, chain fusee movement with Anchor Recoil escapement, shouldered plates and pendulum locking bracket for transit.

Behind only a 4 3/4'' diameter, bowed and painted metal dial with Roman hour numerals set within an outer divided minute ring. The centre bears a signature of ''COWLES, WINDSOR'' which is most probably the retailer. Having matching split and crossed ''open moon'' blued steel hands and set within a brass ring frame. The dial is covered with a cast brass, hinged and locking bezel with a high dome, snapped-in glass.

Contained in an ebonised case with a brass inlaid figured mahogany front. The chamfer top sits above a reeded frieze and is surmounted with a cast brass, pineapple finial. The figured mahogany front is inlaid with brass and flanked by brass inlaid ebonised mouldings. The case sides have ''basket of plenty'' gilded and ringed handles and the rear has a glazed and locking door. The 3 sided short plinth also has inlaid mahogany to the front and sits upon 4 brass ball feet.

* This is extremely pretty clock and my thoughts on the ebonising with just the front being brass inlaid mahogany are to give the owner the ''best of both worlds'' as they were both popular at the time.

Dimensions: 14 1/4'' high x 8'' wide x 5 1/4'' deep.

Circa: 1840 - dated by specific details in particular, the movement shape, fusee chain and style of the hands.

Condition: The whole clock has been recently restored to a very good standard and is in excellent condition throughout. The odd historical repair to the case is evident as one would expect. The dial has an imperfection to the paint surface to the right of the numeral XII. The movement is running well and keeping time, both case locks are working. There are of course, small indications of the clocks usage and age but nothing that should be of concern.

Price: The price is for the clock with a full guarantee.
