Antique Victorian Diamond Brooch Crescent 14ct Gold - C.1890

19th century
Description

We are delighted to offer this stunning antique Victorian diamond brooch made c.1890.

The brooch is made from solid 14ct gold and in spectacular Victorian fashion. Featuring a crescent design, profusely decorated with fine old cut diamond of tapering sizes on a silver faced mount, the brooch is most certainly an attractive and distinguished in design.

Celestial jewellery was increasingly vogue during the Victorian era as renewed fascination of stars & heavens carried into fashion and goldsmithing. The crescent moon was a symbol of the Greek God Selene, representing of a feminine empowerment and change just like the phases of the moon.

In addition to such symbolism, insect designs also offer the perfect opportunity to display high level goldsmithing, with intricate and fine gold/silver mounts, curves and angles to ensure the diamonds dazzle in their finest light.

Owing to its silver front, the diamonds and its mount have a uniform chic appearance; lively and stylish yet not too ostentatious. This brooch most certainly makes for a distinguished and discerning choice to wear with a variety of clothing.

The reverse side of the brooch has a pin which allows it to be worn with jumpers, jackets or coats.

The brooch is unmarked as is common with articles of this period and as such we have tested it for gold indicating 14ct gold.

Not only would this piece make for an excellent collectable/display but also serves as a wonder piece of antique Victorian celestial jewellery to wear on special occasions, whether be it a party, ball or dinner. Certainly impressionable and distinguished, this piece would be a wonderful conversation starter and the perfect way to share your passion of history and antiques.

Diamond is known to be the birthstone of April.

All of our jewellery comes with a complimentary hard shell gift box with a velvet interior.
