Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A lowboy is a small table with drawers, popularised in the late 17th and 18th centuries across Britain and North America. Originally designed as a dressing table or side table, it characteristically features a low height, three drawers, and turned or cabriole legs.

Early 18th-century lowboys were predominantly constructed from native hardwoods such as walnut, oak, and fruitwood. Finer pieces featured burr walnut veneers, herringbone crossbanding, and cast brass drop handles or backplates.

Authentic period pieces display hand-dovetailed drawer joints, oak or pine secondary drawer linings, and natural timber shrinkage across the top surface. Look for hand-cut brass hardware, authentic wear on the lower leg stretchers, and uneven hand-sawn underside framing.

An antique lowboy serves as a hall table in an entryway, an accent table in a living room, or a vanity unit in a bedroom. Pair the rich wood tones with contemporary wall art or a modern table lamp to create balanced visual contrast.

Dust the wood regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and position the table away from direct sunlight or radiators to prevent shrinkage and cracking. Apply a light coat of natural beeswax polish annually to nourish the timber and preserve its patination.
