Meiji period Japanese Travelling Scholars Desk with parquetry finish.
Made from two cabinets that join together and a flat panel that either rests on the two as a desktop cabinet or between them to form a desk.
All the insides of the drawers black lacquered except for the lower right drawer that has a red lacquer lid. The two units clip together and the top has slots to position it in either set-up.
Traditionally used by travelling scribes who would have knelt in front of it to use as an office.
In very good antique condition.
