Old Paris Porcelain Pair of Flared Vases, Jacob Petit Style with Hand-painted Floral Medallions, C. 1850

19th century
Description

Pair of Old Paris Porcelain Vases – Jacob Petit Style, Hand-Painted Floral Medallions, Mid-19th Century, c. 1850

An elegant and richly decorated pair of antique French porcelain vases in the style of Jacob Petit, dating to the mid-19th century. Crafted from fine porcelain, these vases exhibit a classic oval form with scalloped rims, relief-moulded bases, and Rococo-style ornamentation. They are exemplary of the luxurious design aesthetic associated with the Napoleon III period.

Each vase features a hand-painted central floral medallion framed by a deep green ground, highlighted with accents of blue, red, and gold. The reverse sides showcase additional painted decoration in complementary tones. Gilded embellishments throughout further enhance their refined and opulent character.

These vases reflect the influence of Jacob Petit (1796–1868), one of the most imaginative creators of Old Paris porcelain. Originally a designer at the Sèvres factory, Petit’s style is known for its bold shapes, vibrant colours, and lavish decoration—all evident in the design and palette of this pair.

Old Paris porcelain refers to pieces produced by various independent Parisian workshops between the late 18th and 19th centuries. Highly sought after by European nobility and collectors alike, these works embody the romantic, expressive spirit of French decorative art.
