Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Arita porcelain originates from the town of Arita in Saga Prefecture, Japan, where porcelain stone was discovered in the early seventeenth century. It is renowned for its fine white porcelain body, underglaze cobalt blue painting, and vibrant overglaze enamel motifs produced for domestic use and export.

These pieces were crafted from kaolin-rich crushed porcelain stone fired at high temperatures. The production process involves underglaze cobalt blue painting followed by glaze firing, after which iron-red enamels and gold leaf detailing were applied before a secondary lower-temperature firing.

Authentic pieces typically feature an unglazed foot rim showing fine white clay, subtle hand-painted asymmetry, and occasional kiln spur marks on the base. The weight feels substantial yet refined, and overglaze enamels may exhibit light surface wear consistent with age.

A decorative porcelain dish can be presented upright on a plate stand atop a sideboard, mounted within a wall-hung plate collection, or positioned flat as a catch-all tray on a console table to add historical pattern and rich colour.

Hand wash gently in warm water using a mild, non-abrasive liquid soap and a soft cloth to protect delicate overglaze enamels and gilding. Avoid soaking the piece or placing painted antique ceramics in a dishwasher.
