Very Rare Early Georgian Silver & Carved Mother of Pearl Snuff Box, Circa 1725

Description

This exquisite and very unusual George I snuff box dates circa 1725. Of elliptical form, it offers a very rare combination of silver, mother of pearl and tortoiseshell. The reeded silver mounts inset with a carved mother of pearl lid and base and tortoiseshell sides. Both sides engraved wit intricate trellis work, floral and foliate sprays. The hinged lid in very good order.

Hallmarks:

Unmarked as was very often the case with early Georgian pieces.

Dimensions:

Height: 2.5cm / 1 inch.

Length: 7.8cm / 3.2 inches.

Maximum width: 5cm / 2 inches.

Condition:

Excellent condition.

No damage to the mother of pearl or tortoiseshell.

Crisp decorations.

Very good hinge.
