Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Scottish provincial silver refers to items crafted by silversmiths working outside the primary assay offices of Edinburgh and Glasgow between the 17th and 19th centuries. Towns such as Inverness, Aberdeen, and Dundee produced distinctive pieces stamped with local maker and town marks.

Antique silver spoons were forged from high-purity sterling silver, typically consisting of 92.5% pure silver alloyed with copper for structural durability. Makers hand-hammered and polished the metal to construct functional table flatware.

Authentic provincial pieces usually feature makers initials alongside town symbols or pseudo-hallmarks rather than official government assay marks. For Inverness silver, hallmarks often include the town symbol of a camel, a cornuncopia, or the letters INS.

Antique silver tablespoons can be styled as part of a formal table setting, placed inside an open antique cutlery canteen, or arranged inside a glass display cabinet to showcase historical silver craftsmanship.

Antique silver should be washed gently by hand in warm soapy water and dried immediately with a soft cloth. Periodic polishing with a specialised silver cream removes tarnish, while storage in anti-tarnish cloth prevents oxidisation.
