A rare late Seventeenth Century elm bacon settle; the high back with a fielded panelled door which opens to reveal a shallow hanging space; having scrolling arms and a pull-out drawer below the seat; raised on a plinth base.
Circa: 1690
This bacon settle is extremely unusual and much earlier than most examples that I have seen. Despite the fielded panels the pegged construction and panelled back point to a late Seventeenth Century date. The back and interior of the cupboard retain traces of original paintwork.
