We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A lowboy is a small table equipped with drawers, originally produced in the 18th century to function as a dressing table or side table. Popular throughout the Georgian era, these tables feature cabriole or turned legs and a compact design suited for bedrooms or reception rooms.

Georgian lowboys were predominantly crafted from solid timbers such as English oak, walnut, or mahogany. The construction characteristically involved hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, wood peg joinery, and cast brass drop handles or ring pulls.

Authentic 18th-century lowboys display hand-planed timber surfaces, hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer linings, and natural wood shrinkage along the top boards. Check for original peg joinery around the apron frame, hand-forged iron nails, and age-consistent oxidation on the underside.

An antique lowboy functions as a versatile accent piece in contemporary homes, operating well as an entryway console, bedside table, or landing surface. Positioning a contemporary mirror directly above the piece or adding a modern table lamp creates a balanced visual contrast between period timber and modern elements.

Dust the wood surface regularly using a clean, dry microfibre cloth. Apply a natural beeswax polish once or twice per year to nourish the oak timber, taking care to avoid harsh chemical sprays, solvents, or excessive water exposure.
