Description

A quality, early Victorian stick barometer by Amadio of London. A mahogany case of rich colour and good proportions with a carved Turret pediment. The original cistern cover to the base. An ivorine scale with weather remarks and signed 'J Amadio 6, Shorter Court, City (London). A fine quality mercury thermometer and dial. Twin vernier slide adjuster to mark the rise & fall in air pressure shown from 27-31".

J Amadio of London is listed in Banfield's 'Barometer Makers and Retailers' book as working at Shorter's Court, Throgmorton St, London from 1843-1853. They were a noted family of instrument makers.
