Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian narrative genre painting focuses on depicting everyday scenes, social gatherings, and historical anecdotes with detailed figures and interior settings. Popularised during the nineteenth century, these artworks often convey visual storytelling, social commentary, or humorous anecdotes through figurative composition and period-specific attire.

Paintings from this era were primarily executed using oil pigments applied to stretched linen canvas or hardwood panels. Frames were typically constructed from carved wood or molded plaster, layered with red bole and finished with hand-applied gold leaf to create a gilded surface.

Authenticity is evaluated through artist signatures, brass title plaques, natural surface craquelure, and period-appropriate stretcher or panel construction. Inspecting the reverse for maker stamps, gallery labels, and natural timber oxidisation provides further confirmation of age.

An ornate gilt-framed painting serves as a focal point when placed above a fireplace mantelpiece or console table in a study or dining area. Surrounding the piece with minimalist or contemporary furniture creates a balanced contrast between historical art and modern aesthetics.

Position the painting away from direct sunlight, central heating vents, and moisture sources to prevent pigment fading or panel warping. Dust the frame gently with a soft microfibre brush, avoiding chemical liquid cleaners or water on the gilding and varnish.
