Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Gothic tracery woodwork refers to ornamental openwork carving featuring geometric patterns, arcades, and motifs such as trefoils, quatrefoils, and rosettes. Originating in medieval ecclesiastical architecture, these carved wooden elements were incorporated into church screens, choir stalls, and fine domestic furniture.

Historic panels were predominantly hand-carved from native European oak using chisels and gouges. The timber was quarter-sawn for stability, and panels were integrated into timber frames using traditional mortise and tenon joinery without the use of modern adhesives or mechanical fasteners.

Authentic period carvings display irregular hand-tool marks, natural shrinkage along the wood grain, and uneven wear pattern consistent with age. Undersides and unexposed edges often reveal rough axe or adze marks, while the timber surface shows natural patination and oxidisation.

Architectural fragments can be displayed as standalone decorative object on a mantelpiece, mounted within a custom frame, or positioned on modern open shelving. Placing historic timber against neutral, contemporary backdrops creates visual contrast and highlights the carved geometric detail.

Historical woodwork should be dusted regularly using a soft bristles brush or dry microfibre cloth. Avoid wet cleaning products, harsh chemicals, or modern silicone polishes, applying a clear beeswax paste sparingly to protect the wood finish and retain existing patination.
