We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A cellaret is a specialised piece of wooden furniture designed during the eighteenth century to store and cool wine or spirit bottles in dining rooms. Usually constructed with a hinged lid and internal dividers, these pieces allowed hostesses and hosts to keep beverages secured under lock and key.

George III cellarets were predominantly constructed from dense woods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut, often featuring brass drop handles and escutcheons. The interiors were frequently lined with lead or zinc to hold ice and catch moisture from chilled bottles.

Authentic pieces typically display hand-cut dovetail joinery, original brass carrying handles on the flanks, and square tapered or cabriole legs characteristic of the period. Evidence of historical wear near the base, original lock mechanisms, and timber shrinkage along the grain also indicate period construction.

A cellaret functions well as a compact drinks cabinet or occasional table in a contemporary dining room, study, or hallway. Its compact footprint makes it suitable for filling narrow alcoves while adding warmth through polished natural timber tones.

Mahogany cellarets should be kept away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to prevent timber cracking and veneer lift. Regular dusting with a soft microfiber cloth and occasional applications of beeswax nourish the wood and protect the aged patination.
