Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A coffer is a traditional chest with a hinged lid top for storage, whereas a mule chest features additional drawers built into the lower section beneath the main compartment. Originating in 17th-century England, the design allowed easier access to smaller textiles and footwear.

Georgian oak coffers are typically constructed from solid English oak using pegged mortise-and-tenon joinery and fielded timber panels. Base drawers feature hand-cut dovetail joints, pine or oak linings, and solid brass drop handles with steel locks.

Authentic period pieces display signs of hand-craftsmanship, including hand-planed timber surfaces, irregular dovetails, original wooden pegs, and hand-forged iron hardware. Look for natural age-related timber shrinkage across the top lid and panels.

Position a mule chest in a hallway, bedroom, or living area to provide both functional storage and structural weight. Modern interiors benefit from balancing the dark, textured oak with smooth ceramics, natural linen soft furnishings, and contemporary artwork above.

Keep the wood preserved by applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber and maintain its natural patina. Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and position the chest away from direct heat sources to prevent cracking.
