Rare Meissen Demitasse Cup and Saucer, C.1815

Description

An antique porcelain hand-painted demitasse cup with a saucer, created nearly 200 years ago by the renowned Meissen factory. The yellow background, combined with intricate gilded patterns, emphasizes the luxurious nature of the pieces. The center of the saucer is adorned with a stylized compass rose design, serving as a striking decorative element.

The set features three vibrant scenes of courting couples—one on the cup and two on the saucer—all meticulously hand-painted. The artwork is of exceptional quality, resembling miniature paintings. It is quite possible that the courting scenes were inspired by the works of Jean-Antoine Watteau (1684–1721), a prominent French Rococo artist.
