Mizpah jewellery became popular during the Victorian era as sentimental tokens exchanged between loved ones who were separating. The word Mizpah, originating from the Hebrew Bible, translates to watchtower and signifies a blessing for protection during period of absence.

Victorian Mizpah rings were primarily constructed from high-carat yellow gold, silver, or rose gold. The design typically incorporates bold relief lettering, textured or stippled background surfaces, and decorative beaded or granulated borders.

Authentic Victorian Mizpah rings feature period British hallmarks indicating purity, assay office, and year of manufacture. Hand-finished engraving, appropriate historical wear patterns, and cast or chased lettering characterises genuine examples from the period.

A wide Victorian gold band functions as a statement ring worn on its own or stacked with slender modern bands. Combining varied gold tones or pairing structured band designs with plain rings creates a layered contrast.

Clean historic gold rings using warm water, mild soap, and a soft-bristled brush to remove debris from textured surfaces. Avoid abrasive polished cloths on fine detailing, exposure to harsh household chemicals, or wearing during heavy manual activity.
