The carpet weavers and dyers of Azerbaijan were among the best in Persia in the 19th century. The richness and variety of colours that were achieved using only natural ingredients was quite remarkable. The superb carpet from the Karaja district of North-West Persia is a fine example. Note the wonderful intensity and richness of the colours. The outstanding red is so delicious and variegated and is complemented by delightful light blues, sapphire blues, greens, pinks and golds. The medallion design is also finely rendered, and feels both primitive and very contemporary at the same time. The stylised floral border is also exceptional and forms the perfect frame for the dynamic field. This is a striking antique Persian carpet, ideal for many settings and for someone who wishes to make a statement. In very good condition. Professionally cleaned.
