Victorian mahogany campaign chest

This Victorian mahogany campaign chest was made circa 1870.

It would have been purchased by a newly commissioned officer as he was about to go on his overseas posting.

This fine example of a Victorian campaign chest has the rare 3 drawers along the top a further drawer below on the upper part, and then 2 drawers in the lower section, that stand on the original turned feet.

It is made, as would be expected in 2 parts, this was for ease of transport around the world. Each section would be slid into its own packing case for its journeys by ship, wagon, mule or even camels.

It has the flush brass handles and brass straps that were not only for decoration but to protect the chest as it was lifted on its travels.

Imagine the adventures this will have seen, a classic ‘if only it could talk’ piece. It will look fantastic in your home and give you so much pleasure as you show it to your family and friends. Not only is it fantastic on the eye ...
