Antique Furniture Direct has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
In good condition, this super garden seat has a moulded top decorated with brown concentric circles on a gold ground. Similar to Bretby Art Pottery in style (not stamped).
After the repeal of the glass tax in 1845, there was a proliferation of glasshouses in middle class Victorian families. Such structures allowed for the cultivation of exotic plants and extended growing seasons for fruits and vegetables. Garden seats such as this would have provided convenient seating for admiring the surroundings or while tending the plants.
