Canted corners to the slender trunk with the long door shaped at the top. Original plinth foot with shaped lower edge. Engraved brass and silvered dial with rolling moon phases to the arch, the engraved dial centre with subsidiary calendar dial to the lower half and the makers name T Gate, Carlisle (Thomas Gate is recorded working between Rickergate, Carlisle between 1757 and 1800). The thirty hour movement with anchor escapement and bell striking on the hour, fully serviced and working. Presented in excellent original condition with a rich patina to the casework. Measures 84" high x 21.75" wide x 11.5" deep at the hood x 15" trunk width.
