Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Dresser bases developed in 17th and 18th century Britain as practical storage surfaces for dining rooms and kitchens. Originally designed without an upper rack, these low units provided surface space for serving food alongside drawers for cutlery and linen storage.

Traditional dresser bases were constructed using solid native hardwoods such as oak, joined with hand-cut dovetails and mortise and tenon joinery. Hardware typically includes cast brass swan-neck handles or wooden knobs.

Authentic pieces display irregular hand-planed surfaces, hand-cut joinery inside drawer boxes, and wear patterns on feet and runners. Oxidisation around metal fittings and slight shrinkage across wide timber planks also indicate historical origin.

A dresser base functions as a console table in a wide hallway, a serving surface in a dining room, or a low sideboard behind a sofa. Combining traditional timber with contemporary lighting or modern artwork creates a balanced aesthetic.

Apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber and protect the surface finish. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and maintain a stable humidity level to prevent timber warping or splitting.
